CATHERINE E. "BETTY" GAUER Catherine E. "Betty" Gauer after a long and fruitful life has passed into the arms of her Lord on Monday, March 10, 2014, just shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born in Terre Haute to Francis J. and Frances T. (Roetker) Doyle on April 26, 1921. Betty was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She graduated Valedictorian from St. Patrick's Cathedral High School in 1938. She married Edgar N. Gauer, Jr. on September 1, 1942 and he preceded her in death on December 3, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Victor L. Doyle; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herbert & Bette Gauer. Betty retired from the AP&S Clinic in April of 1986 and was an active advocate for Al-Anon. She has touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her children and their families who fondly called her "Boop", Eddie Gauer and his wife Carol from Dunedin, FL, Mike Gauer and wife, Carla of Terre Haute, Phil Gauer and wife Anita of Terre Haute, Fran Gauer and Scott Lowry of Scottsdale, AZ, Jan Anderson of Terre Haute, Cathy Price and husband Bob of Terre Haute and Patrick Gauer of Terre Haute; and grandchildren, Andy Gauer, Christine Lewis and husband Mike, Mandy Gilbert and husband Scott, Nick Gauer and wife Wendy, Greg Gauer and wife Kristin, Larry Gauer and wife Michaela, Anjie Anderson, Kevin Anderson, Annie Gauer, Chip Gauer, Nichole Eslick and husband Cody, Joey Price, Daniel Gauer and Keegan Gauer. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Tori Gauer, Ayla Gauer, Abbey Clouse, Kirsten Lewis, Samantha Lewis, Kate Gauer, Matt Gauer, Nathan Gauer, Caroline Gauer and Emma Roach; a brother, John B. Doyle from Clearwater, FL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold & Marge Gauer; and many nieces and nephews. Prayers will begin at 9:20 A.M. Monday, March 17, 2014 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Joe Villa officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 3:00-6:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service to take place at 5:30 P.M. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home.
