Carolyn L. Hammond, 83, of Terre Haute passed away Friday morning, April 3, 2015 at Meadows Manor North. She was born August 6, 1931 in Terre Haute to Ernest A. Phillips, Sr. and Parlee Williams Phillips. Her husband, Everett L. Hammond, preceded her in death on March 28, 2013. Survivors include her sisters, Pat Fulmer and her husband, Max, of Terre Haute and Wilma Lee Chovanec of Sargent, TX; a sister-in-law, Ruth Elaine Berry and her husband, Buck, of Florida; two granddaughters, Jennifer Alexander and Julie Carter; and two great-grandsons, Eric Alexander and Tyler Alexander. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan Hammond; and a brother, Ernest A. Phillips, Jr. Carolyn was a graduate of Fayette High School and was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. Most people would remember her as a school crossing guard at 25th Street and College Avenue for many years. She would always wave as friends would pass by. Carolyn had also worked at Commercial Solvents, Corp. and was a long-time Democrat Precinct Committeewoman. Funeral services for Carolyn will be conducted at 3:30 P.M. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Dick Smith officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery in Farmersburg, Indiana. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Monday from 1:30-3:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
