Carol A. McCrory, 87, of Terre Haute passed away Friday evening, July 6, 2018 at The Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care at Union Hospital. She was born April 25, 1931 in Decatur, IN to Leo Kirsch and Helen Farr Kirsch, where she graduated as valedictorian from Monmouth High School in 1949. She then completed her Nursing Degree at Indiana University, where she served as President of her nursing class. After moving to Terre Haute with her husband, Carol worked most recently in outpatient surgery at Union Hospital.
Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Judge Charles K. McCrory; three children, Michael K. McCrory (Patricia) of Indianapolis, Sue A. Whitman (William) of Spencer, IN and Jill L. McCrory of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Ethan Kestenman, Jesse Kestenman, Justin McCrory and Katherine McCrory; her sister, Nancy Chandler of Bozeman, MT; a sister-in-law, Carol A. Balsiger of Berne, IN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Don Kirsch.
Carol was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church and active in its church Guild. She also participated in countless community service organizations including the local chapter of PEO, Tri Kappa, The Day Nursery, and the Dental League. She was a past president of Indiana Law Wives, served on the Board of Directors of Hamilton Center, and had been treasurer of the Terre Haute Newcomer's Club. When not serving the community or her family, Carol loved golfing, gardening, playing bridge with her close friends in the "GBC" (Girl's Bridge Club) and rooting for IU football and basketball.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 PM, Thursday, July 12, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Reverend Mel Camp officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Thursday from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM.
