Camilla M. "Cam" Carbon

October 9, 1940 — November 3, 2022

Camilla M. “Cam” Carbon, 82, of Terre Haute passed Thursday, November 3, 2022.  She was born October 9, 1940, in Bedford, IN to Albert Joseph Carbon, Sr. and Camilla Miller Carbon.

Cam graduated from St. Patrick School, Schulte High School and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.

Cam was a smart businesswoman who received an offer from IBM out of college. At the same time, Cam also worked tirelessly on the inaugural campaign of Birch Bayh for the United States Senate. After helping him get elected Cam left IBM for Washington D.C. where she served as Sen. Bayh’s first staff member. But, Terre Haute was home, so she returned and went back to IBM and worked as an account manager for 30 years before retiring.

Cam loved her Catholic faith. She was active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a frequent volunteer. Cam, with her mother Camilla, were the founders of the church's St Patrick's Day celebration (which could only be held on March 17). She loved politics and was a proud life-long Democrat. She also enjoyed football, fashion, and cooking (nobody made a better chocolate cake). But more than anything in the world, she loved her nieces and nephews. Known to them only as “Camilla” she was adored by all 17. She had a way to make the simplest things seem extraordinary and her love knew no bounds. She continued that love and support to the more than 40 great nieces and nephews. They will all miss her deeply.

Survivors include her sister, Patricia Carbon Etling of Terre Haute;  her nieces and nephews (in chronological order) Lisa (Carbon) Barbee (Eddy); Pamela (Etling) Devine; Albert Joseph Carbon (Ediany); Ernest Miller Carbon, John Etling (Carol); Patricia (Etling) Beddow (Randy); Catherine (Carbon) George; Carolyn (Carbon) Nevins (Charlie); Susan (Carbon) Everett; Joseph Etling (Gretchen); Paje (Etling) Felts (Chris); Polly (Etling) Harshberger (Wayne); Robert Carbon (Erin); James Etling; Jay Etling (Melissa); Jeff Etling (Miranda Goodale) and many  great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  her brother-in-law John E. Etling and two brothers and their wives, Albert J. Carbon, Jr. and Dolores Carbon, and Miller Carbon and Suzanne Carbon as well as her nephew Jerry Etling and her nephew by marriage, Matthew Devine.
