Brent E. Wethington

Brent E. Wethington, 59, of Terre Haute passed away Friday morning, January 5, 2024.  He was a Composite Fiber Specialist working in professional motorsports with Newman-Haase Racing.   Brent was born August 4, 1964 in Speedway, Indiana to George Wethington and Madge Puckett Wethington.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Leinwander Wethington;  his brother, Scott Wethington of Terre Haute;  his sister, Catherine Nathman (Edward) of New Mexico;  three sisters-in-law, Laura Swart (Lawrence) of West Lafayette, IN, Carla Leinwander (Larry Sweet) of Terre Haute and Mary Richard (Jim) of Carmel, IN;  nieces and nephews, Lindsey Sanders, Andrew Snedeker, Abigail Snedeker, and Brandon Swart;  and great-niece and great-nephew, Taylor and Devon Swart.  He was preceded in death by his parents;  and a nephew, Cody Swart.

Brent was a graduate of Northwest High School in Indianapolis where he lettered in wrestling all 4 years and attended Indiana State University where he was nationally ranked in wrestling.  He served in the U.S. Air Force for 6 years at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, CA.  Growing up next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Brent was an avid race fan and eventually embarked on a career in motorsports racing where he was a member of the Nigel Mansell and Michael Andretti C.A.R.T. National Championship Teams.  During his career he became very accomplished with composite fiber used in race car frames and bodies.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 12, 2024  in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Todd Riebe and Father Rick Ginther officiating.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.  There is no visitation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.  If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
