Brad passed away Wednesday evening August 16, 2023. He valiantly fought for three years against a relentless cancer. Brad was a lifelong resident of Terre Haute, having been born here to parents, Jeff J. and MaryAnn Marshall Miller.
Brad graduated from Wiley High School in 1968 and attended Indiana State University. He was in the Indiana National Guard stationed at Hulman Field, from February 1970 to February 1976. He was very proud that he acquired his private pilot license in the 1970’s. He worked in the family manufacturing business, Fort Harrison Products, for many years. Brad opened one of the first video rental businesses in 1980, The Video Station. He returned to Fort Harrison to help manage the company in 1988, until it closed in 2001. In 2000 in another entrepreneurial venture, he and another partner opened “yourcoffin.com”. In the style of a Western wood coffin, it offered 100 different uses for your home décor, bookcase, coffee table, kayak….. The website became a world wide sensation for its 15 minutes of fame. He received media calls from London, Paris and other major US cities for radio interviews. He also appeared on “To Tell theTruth”.
Brad briefly worked in Prescott, Arizona in 2002, returning to work at the Fuson Automotive Dealership in Terre Haute. He began working for the City of Terre Haute, as Transportation Director in 2005. This job entailed many different skills, managing the Street Department, Parking Garages, and the Bus system. He retired in May 2017. Brad had a humorous side, alongside his no nonsense style. He often quoted this “don’t piss on my leg and tell me it is raining”. Brad was also a lifelong fan of IU basketball, Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. There was a few years of elation, but mainly wait till next year. He also enjoyed golf, going to the movies, TV and music of the 60’s and 70’s. We recently saw Three Dog Night and the Beach Boys at The Mill.
Brad is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Criss Miller. They were high school sweethearts, through thick and thin, like oil and water, but made it work with humor and love. He is also survived by his son Brian and wife Ann Miller, and three granddaughters, Olivia, Macey and Ruby of Clarendon Hills, IL. He was preceded in death by his son, Shane Patrick Miller in 1991. Additional survivors include his brother, Mark and Nicole Miller of Asheville, NC; his sister, Christy and Tom Jacques of Clarksville, TN; sisters in law, Sandra Childress and Vickie Ward; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
