September 20, 1943 — September 3, 2021

Billie D. Samm, 77, of Terre Haute passed away Friday afternoon, September 3, 2021.  He was a Facility Maintainer for Verizon Telecommunications.  Bill was born September 20, 1943 in Hymera, IN to Howard Samm and Rosalee Fridenmaker Samm.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Dena Brown Samm;  two sons, Bill Samm (Amy) and their children, Jacob, Maggie and Emily of Evansville, IN and Tony Samm (Mari Morrison) and her children, Tanner, Kaylee and Brayden;  sisters and brother, Judy Dowell (Mike) of Harmony, IN, Sallie Denehie of Terre Haute, Peggy Evans (Ben) of Terre Haute and Roger Samm (Jenny) of West Terre Haute;  and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents;  and his brother, Robert L. Bill loved taking care of his lawn and always had a large garden.  He was known as the “Garlic Man” for his raising of garlic and sharing it with friends and family.  He had a nickname for all of his family;  his wife was known and “Dingbat” from the time they met and later was changed to “Dingie”, his oldest son was always “Hillbilly” and his youngest son was “Bone”, who has still been called this today by friends and family.  He loved his grandkids, Jacob who was called “Jake”, Maggie who he called “Maggie Bean” and Emily who he called “Ems”.  He especially loved his daughter-in-law, Amy, who was “Amy Jane” to him.

Bill was an avid fan and shareholder of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed watching I.U. Basketball and NASCAR rooting for Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Kevin Harvick.  But most of all, he loved watching his grandson, Jacob, race quarter midgets with the THQMA.
