Betty R. Forbes, 102, of Merrillville, IN and formerly of Terre Haute passed away Friday morning, July 6, 2018 at Towne Centre in Merrillville. She was an Administrative Assistant having worked for Pitman Office Supply, Viquesney's Office Products and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Betty was born July 3, 1916 in Terre Haute to James Victor Landes and Frances W. Johnson Landes. Her husband, Robert J. Forbes, preceded her in death in 2007.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. and Christine Forbes of Merrillville, IN and James R. and Susan Forbes of Marietta, GA; her sister, Margaret Persinger of Merrillville; a granddaughter, Leeanne Foster; a step-granddaughter, Sharyn Perkins; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Jackson Foster; two step-great-grandchildren, Mallory Schroth and Stefanie Chambers; one step-great-great-grandchild, William Schroth; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Roberts and Jerry Compton.
Betty was a graduate of Wiley High School and attended Brown's Business College. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and the Mended Hearts Association.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Reverend Scott Johnson officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later time in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 PM in the funeral home.
