Betty E. Smith Cheesman Betty E. Smith Cheesman, 83, of Terre Haute died Saturday, April 27, 2013 in Royal Oaks Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She had been a cashier for A&P Grocery Store. She was born November 11, 1929 in Coalmont, Indiana to Charles Raymond Smith and Bess Hemphill Smith. Survivors include her daughter, Darla Smith of Terre Haute; her beloved dog Abbey; and many step children and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 33 years, Russell E Cheesman, Sr. in 2003. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and with her husband, Russell was a group home parent with Gibault Home for Boys. Other memberships include Beta Sigma Alpha Sorority, American Legion Post 104, FOP Lodge #85 and the Marine Corps League. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday May 2, 2013 in Saint Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, with Father Edmund Goldbach OFM. Conv. officiating. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 10:00 A.M. -12:00 Noon Thursday, May 2, 2013 in the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. If friends so desire, Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 111 South 9th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47807.
