Betty Jean Akers, 87, of Clearwater, Florida and formerly of Terre Haute passed away early Sunday morning, September 4, 2016 in Clearwater. She was an office manager at Indiana State University before her retirement. Betty was born November 18, 1928 in Hamburg, Illinois to Louis T. Ulery and Naomi Wilson Ulery. Her husband, Billy B. Akers, preceded her in death in 2008.
Survivors include her three children, Sue Paris of Belleair, FL, Karen L. Thomas and her husband, Kenneth, of Avon, IN and Billy Louis Akers and his wife, Cindy, of Greencastle, IN; six grandchildren, Wade Self and partner, Gary Johns, of Longwood, FL, Don Self and wife, Mandy, of Monticello, FL, Dana Cummings and husband, Jason, of Plainfield, IN, Laura Pemstein and husband, Dan, of Moorehead, MN, Amy A. Hunter and husband, Frank, of Cloverdale, IN and Wesley Akers and wife, Nicole, of Marietta, GA; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandsons; and 6 nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Shaw and Alice Palos.
Betty was a member of Northside Community United Methodist Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 Noon, Friday, September 9, 2016 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Rev. Dr. Clark Cowden officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Friday from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 Noon in the funeral home.
