Bette Jane Gauer

BETTE JANE GAUER Bette Jane Gauer, 92, of Terre Haute died Friday evening, June 14, 2013 in Union Hospital. She had worked as a saleslady for Schultz, Meis and Roots Department Stores. Bette was born March 20, 1921 in Terre Haute to George Raymond Shepherd and Margaret Parks Shepherd. Her husband, Herbert E. Gauer, preceded her in death on April 21, 2005. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy DeLong and Susan J. Gauer both of Terre Haute; a son, Herbert W. Gauer and his wife, Donna, of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Melissa Etling and her husband, Jay, Ryan DeLong and his wife, Sarah, Jerod DeLong and his wife, Sarah, Emily Templeton and her husband, Steven, and Andrew Gauer and his fiancé, Emily Dransfield; a sister-in-law, Betty Gauer; a brother-in-law, Harold Gauer and his wife, Marge; four great-grandchildren, Mason, Tyler, Cole and Jace; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Mark DeLong; a sister, Louise McCray; and a brother, Raymond Shepherd. Bette was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was a faithful woman who loved being a mother to her children as well as being a loving wife, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Southwood Health & Rehabilitation Center and also Union Hospital for their loving and skilled care that they gave to Bette. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service to take place at 7:30 P.M. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family kindly requests that memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
