Benny Charles Dove, 73, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday morning, December 24, 2020. He was a telephone technician for GTE and Verizon Communications for 33 years. Benny was born May 13, 1947 in Terre Haute to Bennett Dove and Ruth Eloise Helt Dove.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Melinda Dove; daughter, Mindi Dove Ward (Josh) of Bargersville, IN; two sons, Adam Dove (Melanie) and Alan Dove both of Clinton, IN; sister, Eloise Jane Dove of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler, Brady, Evan, Krystyna and Dylan; and three great-grandchildren, Keira, Timmy and Henry. Also surviving is his cousin (who was like a brother to Benny), David Helt (Sheryl) of Fort Worth, TX; brother-in-law, John Montgomery (Dollie) of Flora, IN; sister-in-law, Glenda Shope of New Goshen, IN; four nieces, Breanne, Michaela, Andrea and Amber; and dear friends, Denny and Cathy Green. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an aunt and uncle who helped raise Benny, Rita and Russell Helt.
Benny earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Supervision from Indiana State University. He served with the Indiana Army National Guard from 1968-1974 completing his basic training and advanced infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C. achieving the rank of Specialist 5. Benny was a member of the Christian Church of Clay City, Indiana and loved to bowl at Imperial Lanes in Terre Haute.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 29, 2020 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25 th Street, with Pastor Mike Pringle officiating. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Helts Prairie Cemetery near Hillsdale, IN.
