Barbara Jean Wright, 76, of Terre Haute passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 in Kindred Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born Barbara Jean Gaddis in Muncie, Indiana on May 19, 1942. She was born to Elizabeth Killion Gaddis and John Gaddis. She was a graduate of Muncie Central High School. Barbara spent some time working at the University of Wisconsin and was involved with the Navigators in college ministry. Before locating in Madison, Wisconsin she completed an Associates degree in Secretarial Science at Ball State University. Barbara later completed a Bachelors degree in Vocational Home Economics and a Masters degree in School Counseling at Indiana State University. She was a licensed teacher and taught for two years at Highland Park High School and Deerfield High School in suburban Chicago. Barbara was an early childhood education teacher and eventually became a licensed mental health counselor at Charter Hospital in Terre Haute and Hamilton Center in Brazil, Indiana. She was a member of World Gospel Church and was always involved in praying for and ministering to people. She and her husband spent decades working with collegians especially through Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Barbara enjoyed flower gardening, reading, knitting, and nightly news including weather. She loved nature and deeply loved Jesus. She was a great cook and enjoyed having people in her home. Barbara almost always had a wonderful smile for everyone. She was an encourager.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim and her daughter Abigail Pereira, and son-in-law, Anselm Pereira, along with grandsons, Elijah and Gabriel. They reside in Mississauga, Ontario. She also has brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law along with numerous nieces and nephews. She stayed connected over the years with numerous beloved cousins.
Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
