Barbara Jean Potts

Barbara Jean Potts, 83, of Terre Haute, passed away at 3:54 PM Sunday, April 14, 2013. She retired from Malinkrodt (Commercial Solvents) in 1993 after twenty-seven years of service. She was born June 26, 1929 in Sullivan, Indiana the only child of Denman C. Pope and Helen Pauline Pope. Barbara was preceded in death by father, her mother and step-father, Helen and William L. "Bud" Thompson, and special Uncle and Aunt, Carl and Vicky Ridge.

Survivors include her children, Randy (Janet) Potts of Mason, Ohio, Bill (Yogi) Potts of Dundee, Illinois, and Pam (Mike) Schalburg of West Terre Haute; grandchildren, Michelle Nicholson of Irmo, SC, Erin Potts of Cornelius, NC, Tony Potts of Columbus, OH and Kim Kessler and Rob Schalburg, both of West Terre Haute; and cousins, Dan (Betty) Ridge of Forty Fort, PA and Ann (Norman) Williams of Wilkes Barre, PA.

Barbara loved life. She especially enjoyed being with her family, reading and traveling the world. As a devoted Christian, Barbara first attended Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church and later was a founding member of Unity Presbyterian Church. She was ordained an Elder and served as Trustee, held offices in Presbyterian Women and was actively involved on the Mission Committee, Rebekah Circle, and Bible Study. She helped found and coordinate the Unity Presbyterian Church Food Pantry and spearheaded Unity's Sabbatical Lilly Foundation Grant. A Memorial Service honoring Barbara's life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Unity Presbyterian Church, 1207 East Springhill Drive in Terre Haute. Barbara wished to be cremated, and private burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, Indiana prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Unity Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, 1207 Springhill Drive, Terre Haute, IN 47802 or to the Marion Medical Mission Shallow Wells Project, 1412 Shawnee Drive, Marion, Illinois 62959.
