Barbara J. Phelan, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at
Westminster Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on June 5, 1931, in Chicago, IL to William J. Brown and Irma B. Letsch Brown. She was a retired Information Specialist at the former A.P. S Clinic.
Survivors include her children, Marianne L. Whisler and her husband Robert of Richmond, VA, G.Patrick Phelan and his wife Chrissy of Henderson, NV, Donald J. Phelan and his wife Mary Beth of Houston, TX, Susan P. Leonelli and her husband Joseph of Vienna, VA, De-De L. Geier and her husband Kevin of Greencastle and Joan B. Ray and her husband Todd of Terre Haute; thirteen grandchildren, Dan Whisler, Laura Whisler, Genny Phelan and her husband Kyle, Kevin Phelan and his wife Jackie, Bridget Phelan, Joseph Michael Leonelli and his wife Andree, Stephen Leonelli, Kathryn Leonelli, Samuel Geier, Jenna Geier, Christopher Ray, Jonathon Ray and Allie Ray; three great-great grandchildren, Kylie Talbot, Audrey Talbot, and Avery Phelan; and a cousin, Joan Sebben; Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, George Phelan and a grandson, Christopher Ray.

Barbara was a member of St. Joseph University Parish, the Altar Society, Church Choir and taught Sunday School. She also was a member of Terre Haute Bridge Club, Honey Creek Garden Club, ACTS Retreat Program, Sweet Harmony Choral Group, Vice President of The Residence Home Association at Westminster Village, Newcomers and Welcome Club and Gourmet Club.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. Joseph University Parish, 113 S. 5th Street with Friar Mark Weaver officiating. Burial will be at Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with a Scripture Service followed by a Celebration of Life Service at Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street.
