Barbara J. Nicoson, 85, of Terre Haute passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 in Meadows Manor North. She was born October 2, 1927 in Clinton, IN to Christopher Abbott and Margaret Monninger Abbott. Barbara was a medical secretary for Union Hospital, Dr. Byron Wheeler, and Dr. Stewart Combs. Survivors include her husband, F. Richard Nicoson; two sons, Randy Nicoson of Terre Haute and Robert Nicoson of Brookline, MA; two grandchildren, Zachary Nicoson and his wife Carrie and Sarah Wells and her husband Peter; three great grandchildren, Charlie Nicoson, Baker Abbott Wells, and Sawyer B. Wells; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Abbott of Terre Haute; a nephew, Bobby Abbott of Terre Haute; two great nieces, Chelsea Worrell and Erin Worrell; and four great great nephews, E.J., Elijah, Mahki, and Ty. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert L. Abbott; and a niece, Angie Abbott Worrell. Barbara was a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, PEO, Twelve Points Order of the Eastern Star, and Garfield Gals. She was a Past Queen of Badoura Temple #23 of the Daughters of the Nile serving in 1987. Barbara was very active and enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling, bridge, and shopping. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, March 23, 2013 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor David Rockhill officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 with a memorial service by the Daughters of the Nile at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Maple Avenue United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
