Barbara F. Hamilton, 86, of Terre Haute passed away May 14 2019, in Cloverleaf Healthcare of Knightsville. She was born December 24, 1932 in Center Point Indiana to Howard Burns and Mabel Dierdorff Burns.
She graduated from Brazil High School. Barbara worked at Arketex in Brazil IN. After marrying Rev Omer Hamilton, she was a full time Nazarene pastor's wife at Clinton, Cory, and Terre Haute Northside churches. After moving to Terre Haute, Barbara worked in the office of Gartland Foundry.
Barbara was an active member of the Nazarene Church throughout her life. Missions were close to her heart. She served on SWID Work and Witness teams in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Joplin Missouri after a devastating tornado, and Kenya's Africa Nazarene University. Next to her church and family, Barb loved fishing, camping, travel, and gospel music. She sang and played the piano, organ, and accordion. She led services in nursing homes, was a church treasurer, served in the church nursery (Barb loved babies and babies loved her!), was an election poll worker, and a Union Hospital volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Omer Hamilton; her parents; three sisters - Nila R. Greenlee, Donna Joanne Jones, and infant Shirley Ann Burns; one brother Eldon L. Burns; and a brother in law, Joseph Greenlee.
Survivors include two brothers, Wesley Burns and wife Zelda of Stow, OH and Wayne Burns and wife Julie of Greencastle; brother in law Kenneth Jones; sister in law Peggy Burns; two step daughters - Helen Novak and Karen Beckner, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation is from 11 am to 1 pm Monday May 20, 2019 at Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home in Terre Haute. Services follow at 1 pm Monday, also at Callahan and Hughes with the Rev Denny Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at St John's Cemetery in Center Point IN.
