Anne Walsh Burkett, 87, of Terre Haute passed away early Saturday morning, December 7, 2019. She was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to James and Helena Freitag Walsh. Her husband, Thomas E. Burkett, preceded her in death in 2018.
She is survived by her children, Robert Burkett (Linda) of Clinton, Indiana, Becky Kaylor (Jim) of Greenwood, Indiana, Mary Creamer of Terre Haute, Indiana, Martha Lorenzano (Mark) of Terre Haute, and John Burkett (Nancy) of Terre Haute; and her grandchildren Thomas Burkett of Terre Haute, Charles Burkett of Terre Haute, Jacqueline Striegel (Shaun), of Clinton, Suzanne Gorgas (Mike) of Sullivan, Indiana, Jamie Burkett (Shawn Downing) of Terre Haute, Katherine Sonnenberg (Dan) of Westfield, Indiana, Anne Geary (Eric) of Indianapolis, Jason Kaylor (Jenna) of Vincennes, Indiana, Adam Burkett of Terre Haute, Dennis Burkett (Sara) of Zionsville, Indiana, Daniel Burkett of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Marie Stumpf (James) of Whiteland, Indiana, Lisa McKain (Shawn) of Beech Grove, IN and Anthony Creamer (Greta) of Terre Haute, IN. She is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, John Walsh; and two sisters, Mary Walsh Boos and Elizabeth Walsh Rassel.
Anne was a graduate of Saint Patrick High School and Indiana State University with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Education. She was a member of St. Joseph University Parish where she was active in several church functions including serving on the Parish Council and being a member of the Altar Society. Anne was a member of Chi Omega sorority at ISU, Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Harrison Chapter and Farrington Grove Neighborhood Association.
Anne married her husband, Tom, in 1952 and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to homemaking responsibilities, Anne helped manage the Horace Mann Insurance office that Tom operated for over 30 years from their home on South 5th Street in Terre Haute.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 11, 2019 in St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street, with Friar Savio Manavalan, OFM Conv. officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 PM at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
