André Georges Ponsot, 86, of Terre Haute passed away Saturday morning, August 16, 2014 at Union Hospital. He was a Tool and Die Engineer and was founder and President of A.P. Machine & Tool, Inc. André was born October 28, 1927 in Les Assures, Jura, France to Julien Ponsot and Angle Merme Ponsot.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Antoinette Lorenzon Ponsot; three children, Thierry R. Ponsot and his wife, Brenda (nee Domeika), of Terre Haute, Marc A. Ponsot and his wife, Kay (nee Gibbons), of Terre Haute and Monique Ponsot Kofoid and her husband, Andy, of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Nicole Baveux and her husband, Gerard, of Die, France and Monette Copain of Paris, France; three brothers-in-law, Baptist Lorenzon, Bernard Lorenzon and his wife, Nicole, and Jean Lorenzon all of France; a sister-in-law, Cécilia Minary and her husband, Pierre, of France; seven grandchildren, Sophie Kofoid, Mia Ponsot, Julien Kofoid, Emile Ponsot, André Ponsot II, Michael Kofoid and Gabriel Ponsot; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jean-Claude Ponsot and Robert Ponsot; and a granddaughter, Zoe Anne Ponsot.
André was a graduate of the National Tool and Die Academy of France and arrived in Terre Haute on July 4, 1960 to follow his "American Dream" working in the tool and die business. In 1962, he started United Machine and in 1966, he founded A.P. Machine & Tool, Inc. André was the 1983 recipient of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Great American Dream Award presented by Governor Robert Orr. He was recognized for his outstanding contributions by SONY DADC in 1991. He was well respected and a life-time member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 23, 2014 in St. Patrick Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Saturday from 9:00-11:00 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
