Albert J. Gindele, 93, of Terre Haute passed away Thursday morning, August 16, 2018 in Union Hospital. He was a former owner of Sonka's Café and worked for Vigo Liquors as a Salesman for over 25 years before his retirement in 1988. Albert was born December 18, 1924 in Newark, New Jersey to Albert Gindele and Helen Fisher Gindele.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane Mast of Terre Haute; sister, Lillian Nyck of Park Ridge, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Rosner and her husband, Paul, of Indianapolis; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Letitia (Tootsie) Oprisu Gindele; his son-in-law, Jeff Mast; mother and father- in-law, Nick and Anna Oprisu; and brothers-in-law, Nick Oprisu, Emil Oprisu and Steve Nyck.
Albert was a Veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater. He also played Professional Baseball for 8 years mostly with the Red Sox for the Philly organization and played for the Terre Haute Phillies in 1948 in the Three-I League.
It was Albert's wishes that there be no visitation or services. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
