Adron W. Barbee, Jr,

Adron W. Barbee, Jr., 83, of Terre Haute went to be with our Lord on the 14th day of July, 2014. He was born on June 16, 1931in Frankfort, IN to Adron W. Barbee, Sr. and Beulah Inman Barbee. Adron was a assistant professor at Indiana State University for 25 years until he retired in 1992. He is survived by his wife, Joan Carlson Barbee. Other survivors include four daughters, Lisa Paul and her husband, Wilfred, Cynthia Barbee, Sharon Hancock and her husband John and Diana Bowden and her husband Troy; a brother, Edgar Barbee and his wife Phyllis; ten grandchildren, Jason Paul, Joseph Paul, Joanna Paul, Samuel Barbee, Dusty Reading, Keith Norris, Sarah Norris, Whitney Barbee, Patrick Broderson and Ruth Bowden, their spouses; and many great grandchildren; two nieces, Pam Austin and Cheryl Galloway; two nephews, Edgar Barbee, Jr. and Brent Barbee; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. As a boy, Adron lived in California for a time when his father was in the Navy. He loved motorcycles, and he built his first bike at the age of 13. The knowledge of mechanics, motors and electronics would always be a part of his life. Adron had an exciting youth racing motorcycles and owned a Henderson, Harley, an Indian and a Norton. He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War, working as an airplane electrician on B-52's, which at the time was a classified aircraft. Adron was honorably discharged and came home to Terre Haute. It was soon thereafter that he met and married his wife, Joan. Adron returned to school and became a physics teacher, first teaching at Clinton, Riley then Garfield High School, before becoming an assistant professor at Indiana State University. He loved teaching and he was very beloved by his students. Adron could fix anything and his friends brought dozens of items such as microwave ovens, washing machines, sports cars and heavy equipment to him so he could work his magic on them in his spare time. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 19, 2014 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Pastor Brett Parks officiating. Burial will be in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, July 18, 2014 in the funeral home.
