Ada L. Silvers Kracy Kukurisas Ada L. Silvers Kracy Kukurisas, 89, of Brazil died Friday, May 17, 2013 in Exceptional Living Center in Brazil. She was born June 29, 1923 in Kansas City, MO to Charles Ralph Silvers and Nora Ellen Crowder Silvers. She was an Associate Professor Emerita of English, having taught at Indiana State University from 1965-1988 and was fusion-welding supervisor at Twigg Industries in Brazil from 1951-1961. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Michael Kukurisas who passed away on July 1, 1993. Survivors include a son, C. Ralph Kracy and his wife Ruby of Hewitt, TX; a daughter, Joyce L. Steiger; a brother, Carl L. Fox and his wife Carol of Martinsville, IN; eight grandchildren, Walter R. Steiger, Jr. and his wife Laurie, Mark Kracy and his wife Ellen, Rhonda Hill, Charles Kracy and his wife Misty, James Kracy and his wife Samantha, John Kracy III and his wife Carla, Sandra Orton and John R. Kracy and his wife Kathleen; several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ada was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, John C. Kracy, Jr; two grandchildren, Melissa and John Michael Kracy, four brothers, Elmer A. Silvers, Ralph B. Silvers, Earl Silvers and James R. Silvers; and two sisters, Pearl "Sis" Williams and Beatrice Taylor. Ada was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Seelyville, the Hungarian Lodge, Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, USS Intrepid Association, auxiliary to the VFW and American Legion Post 104, University Club, and the Sycamore Varsity Club. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees, also a sixth year at I.S.U. She had belonged to Kappa Delta Pi, Eta Sigma Phi, Sigma Tau Delta, Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa. She received the Lillian Gay Berry Latin Awards, the Hines Memorial Award, the Caleb Mills Distinguished Teaching Award and the Blue Key Faculty Member Award. Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 P.M. Noon, Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th Street with Father John Hollowell officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled prior to services from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Noon at the funeral home.
